What is Gastroenterology?
Gastroenterology is the medical specialty dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders involving the esophagus, stomach, small bowel (duodenum, jejunum and ileum), large bowel or colon (including rectum), liver, pancreas, gallbladder and biliary tract. Gastroenterology is a sub-specialty of Internal medicine.
A gastroenterologist is a licensed physician who is specially trained to diagnosis and treat digestive diseases. In recent years, advances in diagnostic technology and pharmaceuticals has provided a means for effective treatment of many disorders.

It is necessary for Dr. Stein to obtain a complete history and perform a thorough physical examination to diagnose, treat, and provide needed follow-up care for your specific gastrointestinal and digestive tract problems. Testing by endoscopic procedures, laboratory testing, and x-rays are frequently necessary and recommended as diagnostic tools. Diagnostic tests that are frequently used for diagnosing problems related to the GI Tract include;

Specialty Laboratory TestingEndoscopy: Procedures using flexible scope under local sedation to examine the upper and lower digestive tracts.
Colonoscopy: Procedure using a flexible scope under local sedation to examine the lower intestine or colon. Frequently used to screen for Colon Cancer.
Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD): Procedure using a flexible scope under local sedation to examine the esophagus, stomach and first portion of the small bowel.
Capsule Endoscopy: Procedure performed in the office setting where a patient swallows a capsule containing a camera that transmits images to examine 20 ft of the small intestine.
Biologic Infusion Therapy: Infusion therapy administered in our office setting to treat Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis.

Outpatient procedures can be scheduled at the following facilities depending on your insurance coverage and scheduling availability. Dr. Stein performs procedures Monday through Saturday.

For emergencies after 5 PM, weekends, or holidays, call our answering service at (281) 762-6300. If your condition is severe, go to the nearest ER or call 911. Inform ER staff that you are a patient of Dr. Stanley Stein and ask them to contact him after stabilization or evaluation.

Biologic Infusion Therapy
Dr. Stein offers biologic infusion therapy on-site—something many practices don’t provide. Each patient is personally evaluated by Dr. Stein beforehand to ensure safe, appropriate care. With treatment administered by our experienced nurse in a dedicated infusion suite, patients appreciate the comfort and convenience of receiving comprehensive care in a trusted setting.
